Wine from Az.Agr. La Casciameia
Wine
The millennia-long presence of the grapevine in our region is due primarily to the great passion that the people of Liguria have for this crop.
However, there aren’t many Ligurian wines, and vine growers often have to make do with small plots of land, using long poles to support the vines.
The result is a unique landscape, shaped in part by the varying elevations of the terraces where the vines are grown.
Some of the wines produced along the Wine Route are D.O.C., such as the white Pigato, with its slightly aromatic bouquet, and the Vermentino, which has a dry flavor; it is also a white wine but is more delicate and fruity than the Pigato.
Among the red wines produced are “Ormeasco,” made from the Dolcetto grape variety—full-bodied and intensely aromatic—and “Rossese,” made from the Nebbiolo grape variety, which has a dry flavor with a slightly bitter note.
Today we’re featuring a very small business, the only one of its kind in the Upper Argentina Valley.
A truly family-run farm: a lovely couple—Carla and Adriano—run “La Casciameia” in Agaggio Superiore, a hamlet of Molini di Triora.
The name “La Casciamèia” comes from the local dialect, where it referred to the place where hay for livestock was stored.
Carla and Adriano produce an excellent, authentic Ormeasco di Pornassio D.O.C. and a very pleasant E Bunde, a fresh white wine, blend of two ancient native grape varieties—Massarda and Moscatello di Taggia—resulting in a delicate, fragrant white wine that I’d describe as “charming” for its pleasantness and ease of drinking.
Carla and Adriano are fantastic, hospitable, and friendly people who work their land with passion and dedication, even on terrain that isn’t always easy to cultivate.
Of course, they also produce a wonderful, wonderfully fragrant extra virgin olive oil made from the Taggiasca variety.
Oil made from olives grown in high-altitude groves, mountain beans, and other produce of the land.
We are happy to count La Casciameia, run by Carla and Adriano, among our suppliers of local products.
Please note that if you call ahead, they’ll be more than happy to welcome you for a visit.
For those who want to immerse themselves in an authentic farming and winemaking experience that respects the local land.
Thank you, Carla and Adriano
